Canadian study permit requirements vary depending on the degree programs. Here are the admission requirements for degree programs:

1. Diploma Program: 6.0 IELTS score and 60% marks in the higher secondary certificates.

2. Bachelor’s Program (Undergraduate): A minimum of 70% in Grade 12th with a 6.5 score on IELTS.

3. Master’s Program (Postgraduate): A good score in bachelor's and a language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 or better.

4. Doctoral Program: Minimum 80% in the master’s program with additional documents like a CV/Resume, a research statement and a letter of recommendation.

5. MBBS Program: 6.5 or better IELTS score with an MCAT score of 125 (in each section), a letter of recommendation, an essay, and a CV/Resume.

6. MBA Program: A good bachelor's and 6.5 or better IELTS score with a GMAT score of 500, documents such as a statement of purpose, and some work experience.

The university admission process in Canada for international students involves several steps. Here are the easy steps to get Canada university admission:

Step 1: You create a list of universities, check the institution's eligibility requirements, and gather the documents for their application. 

Step 2: You prepare the required documents for the admission application, such as Language proficiency tests can be TOEFL or IELTS for English-speaking institutions. 

Step 3: You submit an admission application and documents and wait for the universities to respond with an acceptance or rejection.

Many public universities in Canada offer fully-funded scholarships for international and domestic students. These scholarships often cover a student's education expenses. Bangladeshi students can also avail of scholarship opportunities and apply accordingly.

For those planning to apply for the 2023 academic year, it is essential to start the application process by May-June 2022. Application deadlines for September 2023 intakes in Canada typically fall between December 2022 and February 2023.

Grading System in Canadian Universities

The grading system in Canadian universities uses a letter grade scale to evaluate students’ academic capabilities or performance results. However, the grading scale may differ across institutions. The most commonly used grading system in Canada is as follows:
  • A+ (90—100%): Excellent

A 4.0 GPA is considered the highest possible grade, with A+ representing 90-100% (9 GPA) and A equating to 80-89% (8 GPA). B+ (75-79%) and B (70-74%) account for 7 and 6 GPA, respectively. A minimum CGPA for masters in Canada of 3.0-4.0 is generally required, which is internationally equivalent to a UK 2.1. Graduate entry test scores, such as the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), may also be needed for the application process.

Bangladeshi students seeking to enroll in a Master's program in Canada should have a GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0. However, there are few universities that accept low GPA for masters in Canada. While obtaining a Master's degree in Canada with a low GPA may be challenging but not impossible.

Which program student can apply to study in Canada without IELTS ?

Students can apply to study in Canada without IELTS by opting for alternative language proficiency tests or seeking exemptions. There are currently two authorized English test providers for Canadian immigration: the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP).International students can also provide English Proficiency tests like TOEFL, Duolingo, CanTest, PTE, and CAEL. Apart from these alternative tests, some international students may be exempted from providing an English proficiency test score.

For instance, if a student's first language is English and they have completed at least four years of full-time studies in English back in their home country, there’s no need to provide a language test score. 

International students who intend to study in Canada without IELTS exam can opt for alternative language proficiency tests, avail exemptions, or submit proof of studying in an English medium school.

  • Seneca College: CAEL, Cambridge English, IELTS, PTE, and TOEFL are accepted. 
  • Humber College: CAEL, Cambridge English, Duolingo, IELTS, MET, PTE and TOEFL are accepted. 
  • Algonquin College:  IELTS, TOEFL, and CAEL are accepted.
  • Centennial College: CAEL, TOEFL, MET, PTE, iTEP, IELTS and Cambridge English are accepted.
  • Fanshawe College: TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL, PTE, Cambridge English, ESL4 and Duolingo are accepted.
  • George Brown College: IELTS, MELAB, PTE, CAEL, and Cambridge English are accepted.

All the above-mentioned colleges give admission without IELTS or accept alternative exams such as TOEFL, CAEL, and PTE. However, an international student must check with the nearest Canadian embassy or consulate about the study visa language requirement.
