The Master's Programme in Modern History will give you a deep understanding of the modern world, focusing on the 20th century and offering some background from the 18th and 19th centuries. Topics include state and nation-building, the fight between democracy and dictatorship, European imperialism, anti-imperial movements, political extremism, and changing migration policies.

You will learn research and writing skills and how to analyze different sources, including handwritten materials, images, and online databases. You will also explore digital humanities approaches and use digital resources at Uppsala University Library.

During the programme, you will gain research skills, access digital resources, and present your Master's thesis. You may also have the opportunity to apply for an internship at a cultural or governmental institution.

The programme leads to a Master of Arts (120 credits) in History. After one year, you can earn a Master of Arts (60 credits).
