Applications of language technology are transforming culture worldwide. This includes tools like search engine ranking, automatic translation, speech technology, and writers' aids. Language technology focuses on methods to analyze texts automatically, considering their linguistic structure and content. The main challenge is the complexity and creativity of human communication, especially in social media. In this program, you will gain practical skills and an understanding of theoretical computational linguistics. Key topics include empirical methods, data collection, statistics for linguistic modeling, and machine learning. You will develop skills in quantitative analysis of linguistic data and work with large-scale machine learning approaches. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with experts from the renowned computational linguistics group at Uppsala University. Many students come from linguistics and computer science backgrounds. After graduation, some pursue a PhD, while others start their careers.
