The Master’s Programme in Sustainable Chemistry at Stockholm University is an advanced, interdisciplinary two-year degree designed to address urgent global environmental and societal challenges through green chemical innovation. Taught fully in English within the Faculty of Science, this programme awards a Master of Science (120 ECTS) in Chemistry. It equips students with the scientific foundations, practical competencies, and critical tools needed to develop resource-efficient synthesis routes, replace toxic substances, utilize renewable biomass feedstocks, and implement circular chemistry principles across modern industries. The curriculum balances core theoretical rigor with extensive hands-on laboratory experimentation and lifecycle thinking. Students complete mandatory coursework covering Sustainable Chemistry, Environmental Law, Toxicology, Materials Chemistry, Biorefinery Processes, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Taught by leading university researchers alongside industry experts and regulatory specialists, students explore catalytic pathways, recycling technologies, and eco-friendly material designs.
