The Master’s Programme in Computer Science: Innovation for Change in a Digital Society (Two-Year) at Malmö University is an interdisciplinary, forward-looking postgraduate degree designed to educate technological change-makers, digital innovators, and software strategists. Taught entirely in English within the Faculty of Technology and Society (Department of Computer Science and Media Technology), this programme awards a Master of Science (120 ECTS) in Computer Science. It moves beyond traditional computational programming by bridging advanced software engineering with business modeling, user-centric innovation, and sustainability management to address complex societal and organizational challenges. The curriculum employs a challenge-based pedagogical framework where students solve live cases from partner corporations, public agencies, and startup incubators. The first year establishes foundational proficiencies in Prototyping Technologies, Research Methods and Data Analysis, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in a Digital Society, Emerging Digital Technologies, and Designing and Evaluating Innovation. During the second year, students apply advanced competencies in a large-scale innovative capstone project alongside elective coursework and preparation for scientific inquiry. The programme is closely connected to cutting-edge research environments at Malmö University, including the Internet of Things and People (IoTaP) research centre, the Software Center, and the Data Society Research Programme. The degree culminates in the fourth semester with an independent Master’s Thesis (30 ECTS), conducting advanced research at the intersection of computer science, digital innovation, and societal transformation.
