The Master’s Programme in Ethnic and Migration Studies at Linköping University is an internationally recognized, two-year interdisciplinary postgraduate degree designed to critically address some of the most pressing global challenges of our time. Taught entirely in English within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences on Campus Norrköping, this programme awards a Master of Arts (120 ECTS) with a major in Ethnic and Migration Studies. It is developed and delivered in direct association with the Institute for Research on Migration, Ethnicity and Society (REMESO), one of Europe’s leading academic research institutes dedicated to analyzing global migration dynamics, asylum policies, citizenship, labor mobility, and social inclusion. The curriculum integrates historical, sociological, political-economic, and postcolonial perspectives to help students comprehend and analyze migration phenomena from local, national, and transnational standpoints. Coursework covers critical themes including Historical Perspectives on Ethnicity and Migration, Migration, Inclusion and International Political Economy, Class, Labour Migration and Globalisation, Intersectionality and Gender in Migration Studies, Critical Race Studies, and Advanced Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodologies. During the third semester, students have the opportunity to participate in the European Master in Migration Studies (EuMIGS) exchange, complete a credit-bearing professional internship with policy or civil society organizations, or pursue advanced elective courses. The programme culminates in the fourth semester with an independent Master’s Thesis (30 ECTS), conducting in-depth empirical research guided by leading migration scholars.
