Cybersecurity, Master's Programme

The Master’s Programme in Cybersecurity at Linköping University (Institute of Technology - LiTH) is an elite, two-year research-connected postgraduate degree engineered to educate defensive and offensive security architects, cryptologists, and cybersecurity strategists. Taught entirely in English within the Faculty of Science and Engineering on Campus Valla, this programme awards a Master of Science (120 ECTS) with a major in Computer Science. Linköping is internationally recognized as Sweden’s cybersecurity capital, housing key national security hubs such as the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), the National Forensic Centre (NFC), and high-profile security defense industries. The curriculum balances rigorous theoretical mathematical foundations with hands-on ethical hacking and system defense labs. Coursework covers critical subjects including Professionalism in Cybersecurity, Computer Networks, Advanced Programming in C++, Humans in Cybersecurity, Computer Security, System and Network Security, Ethical Hacking, Organising for Cybersecurity, Cryptology, Digital Forensics, Cybersecurity Law, and Software Security. Students utilize state-of-the-art security testbeds to simulate cyberwarfare scenarios, penetration testing, and security auditing. The programme culminates in the fourth semester with an independent Master’s Thesis (30 ECTS), conducted either within LiU’s premier cybersecurity research groups or in direct collaboration with leading defense and intelligence partners.
