The Master’s Programme in Structural Engineering and Building Technology at Chalmers University of Technology is an advanced postgraduate degree designed to educate future civil engineers in designing, modeling, and maintaining sustainable structures and resource-efficient buildings. Taught entirely in English on Campus Johanneberg in Gothenburg, this programme awards a Master of Science (120 ECTS) with a major in Civil Engineering.
The curriculum bridges structural mechanics, advanced building physics, finite element methods (FEM), conceptual design, and life-cycle performance. Students gain high-level technical expertise in steel, concrete, timber, and geostructures. Developed in close collaboration with prominent Swedish construction and engineering firms, the degree culminates in the second year with an independent Master’s Thesis (30 or 60 ECTS), often conducted alongside industry partners or cutting-edge civil engineering research groups.
